Lord Krishna- A playful blue magic

Lord Krishna was born in a royal family to King Vasudeva and Devaki in Mathura. He was born in the middle of the night, and He was moved to his foster parents the same night because of His uncle, King Kansa (Kamsa) who was threat to His life. Immediately after the birth at Mathura, his father Vasudeva took baby Krishna across the river Yamuna, to His foster parents Nanda and Yashoda in Gokula. The night Krishna was born, there was a downpour and storms which could have made the movement difficult, but nothing hindered the Lord. It is said in puranas that the river split in two, paving way for Vasudeva who was carrying baby Krishna on his head and Adisesha guarded the baby from the rain. Right from His birth, Lord Krishna was an epitome of miracles and magic. He was raised with great love and devotion in Gokula. He was in Gokul until his teenage, after which He met with His Guru Sandipani and began walking the path of His purpose and role in Mahabharatha

The day of Janmashtami is close to the heart of every Krishna Devotee. The pooja preparations begin around afternoon and peaks around mid-night, the Lord’s birth time. Devotees observe fast all day and break their fast the next day after sunrise. People decorate the house entrance and pooja room with kolam – a geometrical pattern drawn using rice batter in South India and colordful Rangolis in the North. Then, baby footprints of Krishna are drawn from the threshold of the house until the pooja altar depicting the arrival of Lord Krishna into the home. The idol of Lord Krishna is set in middle of the pooja altar, decorated with jewellery and flowers. Every household prepares savouries as Neivedhya for the baby Krishna that they offer during pooja along with butter milk and other dairy products. During the pooja, family gather and sing slokas and bhajans in praise of Lord Krishna, there are numerous hymns in every local language on Lord Krishna. Also, recitation of Bhagavad Gita is a popular practice. After the pooja, offerings and Aarti is performed.
