International Day Of Peace
The International Day of Peace or Peace Day is observed on 21 September every year. This day was established in 1981 by unanimous resolution in United Nations. Peace Day creates an opportunity for the humanity to commit to Peace above all differences also to contribute towards building a ‘Culture of Peace’. Idea of observing Peace Day was established by United Nations General Assembly in 1981 and later in 2001 the General Assembly unanimously voted to declare September 21, as the Day of non-violence and to cease-fire.

To inaugurate the Peace Day celebrations, the Peace Bell is rung at UN Headquarters in New York City every year. The bell is cast from coins donated by children from all over the world (except Africa). It was a gift from the United Nations Association of Japan, as "a reminder of the human cost of war". The inscription on the Peace Bell reads, "Long live absolute world peace".
On this Peace Day, the United Nations invites all the countries and people to honor a cessation of hostilities, and to create educational and public awareness on issues related to peace. This day is also devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. Every year UN also creates a theme based on the prevailing issues concerning the world peace, this year, 2021 theme is – “Recovering better for an equitable and sustainable world”. The focus is set on recovering better for a more equitable and peaceful world. To celebrate peace by spreading compassion, kindness, and hope in the face of the pandemic, and voicing & standing up against acts of hate online and offline.
