Punarvasu Karte

Punarvasu Karte is the transit of Sun into Punarvasu constellation. Karthe is a period of 13.5 days during which Sun transits through a particular Nakshatra. As the Earth revolves, the Sun also moves through each of the 27 nakshatras for an average period of 13.5 days. These transits are important for farmers, and other activities associated with rain. Karthe assists in detecting the possibilities and nature of the rain or quality of air for a given period.

For instance, The Sun entering the Mrigashira Nakshatra denotes rainy season astronomically this means that the Sun is aligned with Orion constellation’s location.

Technically, the Sun is not hopping onto various constellations, these constellations are located far away from the solar system. It appears like Sun is moving due to our Earth’s movements-rotation and revolution motion; so, as an observer on Earth, since Sun is closer to us than the stars, it seems like Sun is moving from one constellation to another. This results in Karthe.

Punarvasu Nakshatra- General Attributes

Punarvasu ‘The Star of Renewal’ is the seventh nakshatra of 27 nakshatras. When the moon was between 80° 00′ to 90°00′ Gemini and 90°00′ to 93°20′ of Cancer, we term this constellation, Punarvasu. Astronomically, this nakshatra is of two bright stars called Castor (Alpha-Geminorium) and Pollux (Beta- Geminorium). In Sanskrit, Punarvasu translates to “Punar" meaning to repeat and "vasu" meaning “ray of light”, i.e., "turning into light again." This star makes the natives highly ambitious and full of ideas. A natural interest in philosophical teachings and spiritual writings is seen. Punarvasu Nakshatra is the silence after the storm, the silence and sense of ease that reinstates after the chaos.

Even in the order of the nakshatras, this nakshatra comes after Ardra, which is ruled by the Lord of the storms. The ruling deity of this nakshatra is Aditi, the universal mother of all celestial beings and Goddess of abundance. Ruling deity imparts nurturing quality and empathetic nature to this nakshatra. Jupiter is the ruling planet. This nakshatra is symbolized by Bow and Quiver of Arrows denoting higher ambitions in life. Being apathetic, lethargic, and unwilling to invest in self are some of the major shortcomings of this nakshatra. However, these natives can be great writers and inspiring orators with profound imagination and spiritual progress.
