Sharad Ritu
Sharad Ritu is the autumn season of the Hindu calendar in India that corresponds to Ashwina and Karthika masa in the Panchang. In Gregorian calendar, Sharad Ritu falls in the months of September and October-mid november. Ritu in Hindi means season, there are six ritus or seasons in Hindu calendar- Vasant Ritu (Spring), Grishma Ritu (Summer), Varsha Ritu (Monsoon), Sharad Ritu (Autumn), Hemant Ritu (Pre-Winter) and Shishir Ritu (Winter). Sharad Ritu is referred as Sarath in Malayalam, Kannada & Telugu calendars, Munpani in Tamizh calendar, Saratha and Shorot in Odia and Bengali calendars.

Autumn in India or Sharad Ritu is characterized by mildly cold weather, clear skies after three months of monsoon rains. The length of the day and night remains almost equal during Sharad ritu or autumn. Autumn Equinox occurs in this season where Earth's axis is titled in a line which is neither too inclined towards nor far away from the Sun. Water level in the rivers, ponds and local water bodies increase, water also settles and becomes clear. This season also hosts many important festivals like Sharad Navratri, Sharad Purnima, Diwali and Karthika poornima. This season also hosts the brightest full moon night of the year.
