Shirdi Sai Baba Punyatithi
Saibaba punyatithi is a celebration of Saibaba’s Maha Samadhi. It is believed that He left his mortal coil on 15th October 1918 around 2.30 pm on the eve of Dasami tithi of Ashwina masa i.e Vijayadashami day at Shirdi. This festival is celebrated as a three day event at Shirdi called Punyatithi Utsav and other temples of Saibaba. Millions of Devotees gather at Shirdi and special Maha prasad is distributed on this day.

The significant rituals during the Punyatithi period are Kakad Aarti, Procession of Portrait and Pothi, Akhand Parayan of Shri Sai Satcharitra in Dwarkamai, Chariot Procession.
Saibaba is an avatar of Lord Dattatreya, the one who encompasses the Holy Trinities. The holy book SaiSatcharita highlights miracles that Baba performed all through his life, helping every devotee who visited Him and worshipped Him. He demonstrated the very purpose of His life by performing those unbelievable miracles. He stated that He will be ever giving and ever active even after leaving His physical body in healing and guiding all the devotees who seek refuge in Him.
Festivities of the Three-Day event
Day 1: First Day of Utsav
Kakad Aarti begins at 4:30 AM early in the morning, followed by a procession of divine portrait and Pothi of Sai Baba. Akhand Parayan of Sri Sai Satcharitra begins after the procession. Sai Satcharitra is a holy book that illustrates the divine miracles of Sai Baba, written by His ardent devotee, Hemadpant. Around evening, keertan or Bhajan musical programme by popular artists is conducted at 7.30 PM. At 9.15 PM in the night, Sai Baba palanquin procession happens.
Day 2: Punyatithi Day
The day commences with daily Kakad Aarti at 4.30AM. Around 9 AM, a Bhiksha Zoli programme, where devotees bring in donations to Sai Baba is scheduled. These devotees are chosen a day ahead of the Bhiksha program through a lottery method. After this, keertan programme and mid-day aarti follows. At night 9.15 PM, a chariot procession of Saibaba is taken through the village. Samadhi Mandir remains open for Parayan throughout the night on the Shirdi Sai Baba Punyatithi day.
Day 3: Closing Day
On the closing day of the Utsav, Holy bath or hydration ceremony with Holy water of Godavari for Sri Sai Baba occurs early in the morning. Followed by Padyapuja at 6AM. At 6.45, Rudrabhishek ceremony happens in Gurusthan Mandir. All though the day, many bhajan or keertans, evening Aartis and various programs by several artists are conducted.
