Legend of Varaha avatar

According to the Srimad Bhagavatam, demon kings Hiranyakashipu and Hiranyaksha were the sons of a sage named Kashyapa muni. Both grew up to be powerful but led the path of adharma instead of dharma. In their early years, Hiranyakashipu and his brother Hiranyaksha performed a penance to invoke Lord Brahma and got the boon of invincible powers in all realms from the Lord. After which they went on a rampage to conquer all three worlds, Lord Brahma after realizing their danger, requested Lord Vishnu to rescue them.

Lord Vishnu fought a battle and regained Indraloka and padhal loka, meanwhile Hiranyaksha hid the earth – Bhuloka under the Cosmic ocean-Garbhodaka Sagara. Lord Vishnu took Varaha avatar- wild boar avatar to recover the planet Earth. He split the ocean into two huge waves and swam into the ocean with his powerful hooves. He carried the earth, well balanced between his sharp strong tusks. After restoring the Earth, with His anger glowing like molten lava killed the demon Hiranyaksha.
