Kala Sarpa Dosha

Vedic astrology has classified various planetary positions in one’s birth chart as Yogas and Doshas. While Yogas are beneficial and usually appear in one’s birth chart due to their Good Karma, Doshas are malefic, and people who must clear their bad karmic baggage have Doshas in their birth chart. Kala Sarpa Dosha is one such inauspicious Dosha. When Planets Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn are placed between Rahu and Ketu at the time of birth. Even the degree of these planets should be hemmed between the nodes, it forms Kala Sarpa Dosha in their birth chart. These seven planets, when between Rahu-Ketu lose their strength and the beneficial attributes of these plates might not find expression.

Understanding Kala Sarpa Dosha

As mentioned, Kala Sarpa Dosha will be present in the birth chart if the person has bad Karmas from their previous incarnations. It is also believed that this Dosha will form if a person has killed a snake or in any way caused the death of an innocent animal or a snake during his/her lifetime. This Dosha is well-discussed by famous saints of Vedic astrology.
Rahu and Ketu play main role in Kala Sarpa Dosha. According to Vedic Astrology, these two are shadow planets and are two parts of a snake. Rahu is the head, and Ketu is the tail of the snake. Often Rahu is also known as dragon’s head and Ketu as dragon’s tail in The West. Rahu and Ketu are the only planets that always move retrograde. So, when the planets are hemmed between them, it reduces all the planets' positivity and strength and their auspicious nature. They are debilitated, aspected and afflicted by malefic shadow planets.

Effects of Kala Sarpa Dosha

These inauspicious planetary conditions make life troubled, stigmatic, unhappy, unstable and impoverished.
